From Norms to Absurd

In Nathaniel Mary Quinn’s artwork “Mend”, We see the image of a people who is dressed up in a normal shirt, but as you look up the image, everything is distorted. When I saw the artwork, I wondered why is the neck so long when Nathaniel could have chosen to make it look normal. The answer I thought of is that he wanted to create a transition. He wanted to make the artwork go from a standard and realistic image and slowly transition to the face where there is a jumble of images. This reminds me of the idea of entropy, or a gradual decline into disorder. Like in water, where there is a laminar flow and it all the molecules flow in one direction, but then it eventually become more turbulent.
